A Level French Revision Course

This particular course is only available in the Easter and Summer holidays and is aimed specifically at students studying for A Level.

If these dates are not suitable for you, you may like to look at the Intensive Language Course which is also suitable for A level students and can be tailored to suit the amount of contact time you would like. These are also available in other destination cities. You can see a summary of which courses are available on our Language Courses page.

Alternatively, you may also be interested in pairing a language course with a work experience placement by enrolling on our popular Work and Study courses.

Location

Learning French at our partner language school located in the beautiful French Riviera, is a real treat. Situated in the city, while being just 10 minutes’ walk from the beach, you get the best of both worlds in Nice; city sights and conveniences coupled with the beauty and relaxation of the Mediterranean Sea. Surrounded by its own garden, where you will be able to relax at break times, the modern, well-equipped French language school really is a great place to study.

The language school building has its origins in the late 19th Century and has been beautifully renovated to provide light and airy classrooms, all with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The school has a full computer suite for use outside of lessons, a library, student lounge and a private garden with patio area.

Language Course

The A Level Revision course is aimed at students in Year 12 or 13 who want to improve their knowledge, understanding and execution of French and develop strategies to prepare for their exams.

The tuition is very much practice oriented. You will participate in group sessions alongside other students of a similar level, with lessons focused on improving all aspects of the language; speaking listening, reading and writing. There are 4 classes of this type per day and these generally take place during the morning though during busy periods these classes can alternatively be placed in the afternoon.

Your remainder lessons are reserved for exam techniques and text analysis. This is also part of the next day’s work to be corrected and analysed by the teacher. A range of text material is used in lessons, all of which deals with French literature and civilisation and there is a mock exam, an oral or written test, at the end of the course on a theme of your choice. We will ask you before you travel if there are any areas in particular that you would like to cover with your tutor.

You are expected to spend 1 to 2 hours per day after lessons on homework and preparation.

You will be given a written assessment before you travel and a speaking assessment on the first morning before lessons in order to place you in the group most suited to your ability level. Classes have an international flavour and a lively feel because they are grouped by ability not nationality or age.

Optional Social and Cultural Programme

Starting with a welcome party on your first day, The school offers a range of social, sporting and cultural activities including: salsa evenings, tapas evenings, karaoke evenings, cheese tasting workshops, cooking workshops, beach volleyball, segway tours, boules, bowling, visits to other local towns like Antibes, Monaco and Cannes and trips to the Matisse, MAMAC and Chagall art galleries. Activities change weekly and are booked directly with the school during your stay.

Accommodation

For students wanting to completely immerse themselves in the French language and culture we recommend that you stay with one of the carefully selected French host families. They will not only introduce you to the French way of life and help you practise the French language but will also give you a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. The host families are situated near to the school and provide half board accommodation (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability and at a surcharge, an extra day on one side of your trip may be available on request to facilitate flight dates. You can read more about what it means to stay with a host family in our Guide to Host Families.

Students of 18 years or older also have the option of staying with a host family on a self-catering basis. In this instance, students will have access to the kitchen to prepare their own meals.

Transfers

If you select to stay with a host family, they offer a free pick up service on arrival at Nice Airport. For other transfers, the tram line 2 runs frequent services from Nice airport into the city centre (approx €1.50). We are happy to offer details for travel on public transport on request.

School Closures

The school is closed on 10/04/23, 01/05/23, 18/05/23, 29/05/23, 14/07/23, 15/08/23 and 01/11/23. On these days an activity or excursion is offered instead of lessons.
