Location

Learning French at our partner language school located in the beautiful French Riviera is a real treat. Situated in the city but just 10 minutes’ walk from the beach, you get the best of both worlds in Nice: city sights and conveniences coupled with the beauty and relaxation of the Mediterranean Sea. Surrounded by its own garden where you can relax at break times, the modern, well-equipped French language school really is a great place to study.

The language school building has its origins in the late 19th Century and has been beautifully renovated to provide light and airy classrooms, all with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The school has a full computer suite for use outside of lessons, a library, student lounge and a private garden with patio area.

Language Course

The 28-lesson course consists of general group lessons and small-group tutorials. The intensive, dynamic learning environment helps students gain the skills, confidence and techniques needed for success in their exams. Please note that the A-level Revision course is not aimed at any one A-level board or specification.

Group Lessons

The 20 group lessons are taught in open age-group classes of up to 12 students, grouped by CEFR language level. Students build the confidence and independence they need to use French in a wide range of situations in everyday life, the workplace and university.

There are four group lessons a day, generally timetabled in the morning. The classes cover speaking, listening, reading and writing, with lesson content pitched precisely to help students make rapid and sustainable progress. At busy times of year, group lessons may be moved to the afternoon.

Students are allocated to groups on the basis of a short assessment carried out on the first morning of the course.

Tutorials

The eight tutorials are reserved for exam techniques and text analysis. A range of texts and materials is used in lessons on topics related to French literature and culture.

Students’ textual analysis work is assessed and corrected by the teacher for review in the following day’s lessons. In addition to this, students take a mock written or oral exam at the end of the course on a topic of their choice. Prior to travel, students will be asked to specify areas they would like to cover with their tutor.

Outside lessons, students are expected to one to two hours per day on homework and preparation.

Optional Social and Cultural Programme

Starting with a welcome meeting on your first day, the school offers a range of activities that can include: salsa evenings, tapas evenings, karaoke evenings, cheese tasting workshops, cooking workshops, beach volleyball, segway tours, boules and bowling.

Occasional full-day excursions on Saturdays are offered to local towns such as Antibes, Monaco, and Cannes, with trips to the Matisse, MAMAC, and Chagall art galleries.

Activities change weekly and are booked and paid for directly with the school during your stay.

Accommodation

For students wanting to completely immerse themselves in the French language and culture we recommend that you stay with one of the carefully selected French hosts. They will not only introduce you to the French way of life and help you practise the French language but will also give you a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. Host accommodation is situated within 45 minutes total journey time of the school and provides half board  (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability and at a surcharge, an extra day on one side of your trip may be available on request to facilitate flight dates. You can read more about what it means to stay with a host in our Guide to Host Accommodation.

Students of 18 years or older also have the option of staying with a host on a self-catering basis. In this instance, students will have access to the kitchen to prepare their own meals.

Please note that due to high demand in July and August, single rooms are only available on an enquiry basis. We can instead offer twin rooms for a stay with a host. Twin rooms are shared with other students of a similar age, same gender and different nationality. This is a great way to meet new people and continue to expand your language skills. A discount will be applied to your online account once you have enrolled. Please inform us in advance if a single room suits you best, and we will work with you to match this requirement.

Transfers

If you select to stay with a host family, hosts offer a free pick up service on arrival at Nice Airport.

For other transfers, tram line 2 runs frequent services from Nice airport into the city centre (approx €1.50). We are happy to offer details for travel on public transport on request.
