We recently took part in a familiarisation trip with some of our partner schools in Andalucía, and what an eye-opening experience it was. Seeing the schools in person gave us a deeper understanding of the incredible educational experiences they offer – and if we’re honest, it made us wish we were students again! The trip took us through Málaga, Cádiz, and Seville, each city offering a unique charm, but with one common thread: excellent language learning environments and truly welcoming communities.
Our Spanish Adventure Through Andalucía
Day 1: Málaga – A Warm Welcome
Our journey began in Málaga, a vibrant coastal city that has everything from the modern and young city to historical sites and the sea. Upon arriving at the school, we were struck by the warm and professional welcome. The staff were not only approachable and kind but also passionate about student welfare and educational development.
The school’s residence impressed us immensely: modern, spacious, and built for student comfort. There was a sociable kitchen, a cinema room, pool tables, and a well-kept courtyard. Residences are staffed by friendly, supportive personnel who provide a reassuring presence for younger learners. It would be a perfect accommodation for groups and solo travellers alike!
Málaga’s core school is a bright, modern facility with accessible classrooms and an inviting common area. Nearby is the annexe building used in summer for additional classrooms – newly renovated and ideal for groups. Every detail has been designed to enhance the student experience, from interactive lessons to weekly activity boards where students can join social events and excursions.
Day 2: Cádiz – Coastal Charm and Cultural Depth
A scenic three-hour drive along the coast took us to Cádiz. This is only a 2.5-hour drive away, and you’re worried about travelling for a long time, don’t be. You will likely spend your time staring out the windows at the amazing views!
In Cádiz, we started with a traditional Spanish breakfast in the beautiful Plaza de Mina before heading on a historical walking tour of the city – the same kind of experience students get when they arrive. A welcome city tour is a thoughtful touch that helps learners orient themselves and appreciate the local culture. The walk took us to the Torre Tavira, which houses a Camera Obscura. There are only 74 landmarks like this in the world, making Cádiz special. It is certainly a fantastic place to have one; the views you get from the highest point are incredible over the coastline. We also took a walk out to the viewpoint; thankfully, the wind didn’t take any of us over the edge, but through blowing hair, we enjoyed the views.
The language school in Cádiz is ideally located between the old town and the new city. The beach is just a 5-minute walk away. Spread across two floors, it features bright classrooms, modern facilities, and a social common area that encourages mingling and cultural exchange. Whether you’re a teacher bringing a group or a student arriving solo, you’ll feel right at home.
Day 3: Seville – Culture, Cuisine and Community
Next stop: Seville. After checking in, we enjoyed another group meal (tapas, of course!) and then walked to the language school through the (unusually) rain-soaked but still beautiful streets of the city.
Seville’s school made a strong final impression. We were welcomed with an insightful tour around the building, and the open central common area really stood out to us as a fantastic area to meet other students and enjoy the atmosphere of the school. The tour ended with a group meal on their rooftop terrace, where we were given the chance to sit and chat casually with the staff. This especially highlighted what stood out across all locations – the community feel of each school. The teachers and administrative staff are all genuinely invested in the student experience. Their offices are easily accessible and welcoming to students; they all have glass walls facing into the common area, inviting students in if they have any questions.
The residences in Seville are picturesque and well-situated, providing a perfect base for exploring the city’s rich culture. We also visited some iconic landmarks, including the Setas (Metropol Parasol), Seville Cathedral and Plaza España – reminders of the vibrant backdrop students get to live and study in. If there is one thing I would recommend ticking off during a trip to Seville, make sure you visit the Setas in the dark, it becomes a whole new attraction with atmospheric lights and music, the city lights illuminate the sky around you and there is a certain peace being at a distance from the city below you.
