Canada | Quebec City | French A Level Revision

A-level Revision Course

Designed to complement the study of French at A-level, our A-level Revision Courses offer intensive small-group and 1:1 teaching to improve students’ skills in using French at an advanced level.

The group classes are tailored to students’ ability levels and cover general aspects of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Studying in groups of mixed nationalities and ages gives students a rich and immersive experience while in France.

Additional 1:1 lessons allow students to specify in advance the syllabus topics they wish to cover. For example, they could focus on a set text, an aspect of speaking or points of grammar.

Please be aware that the A-level Revision Course is not designed around any one single examination board or specification. It is suitable for any student taking A-level, Leaving Certificate, Highers, Finals or similar examinations.

Location

Quebec City is the only major city in North America where French is spoken by nearly everyone. With its European charm and safe environment, it is the ideal setting for an authentic immersion experience. The city is home to many quarters each with a unique character, try tobogganing in Dufferin Terrace, be one of the many to photograph the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac Hotel, take in the military history at la Citadelle or go shopping for souvenirs in the Petit Champlain area.

Located along the banks of the St Lawrence river and within walking distance of the old town and beautiful riverside parks, the language school is located close to some incredible sights. The school can easily be easily accessed by the extensive public transport system. The school also hosts a fully equipped gym, a library, cafeteria and a student lounge and ample green space for socialising.

Language Course

The course includes 27.5 hours of lessons per week which will be split into:

  • 15 hours of core during which you will participate in group sessions alongside other students of a similar level, with lessons focused on improving all aspects of the language; speaking listening, reading and writing.
  • 7.5 hours of conversation workshops, this will be extended to 10 hours over summer.
  • 5 1:1 lessons with a tutor focusing on a topic of your choice to help support your A Level curriculum. We will ask you before you travel what you would like to cover with your tutor during these individual sessions, for example, grammar, conversation or translation.

This course is designed for students who wish to improve their French, meet new people and have some free time to participate in Canadian culture and life in Quebec City.

Classes have an international flavour and a lively feel because they are grouped by ability not nationality or age.

Optional Social and Cultural Programme

The school offers a range of activities during the week such as:

  • guided tours of Old Quebec
  • Excursions to Montmorency Falls
  • Cultural workshops
  • Social events with local students.

Weekend excursions (Montréal, whale watching, skiing in winter) are also available.

Accommodation

For students wanting to immerse themselves in the French language and culture we recommend a stay in host accommodation with one of our carefully selected Québécois hosts. They not only introduce the Québécois way of life and help practise the French language, but also give a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. Host accommodation is situated within 45 minutes’ journey time of the school. Half-board accommodation is provided (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before the course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability, an extra day on one end of the trip may be available on request to facilitate flight dates.

There is also an option to stay in a shared residence with other language school students, this is shared between 3 students with a shared kitchen, bathroom, and living/dining room. The residence is 20 minutes from the language school via local bus. Please enquire with us if you would like to discuss this accommodation option.

Transfers

Shuttle bus transfers with other language school students are possible form Montreal or Quebec Airport at an added cost. There is also a public shuttle bus (Jaguaride) between Montreal and Quebec daily as well as easy public transport links between airports.
