Intensive German Courses

Intensive German Courses

With focused, engaging lessons at language school, an Intensive German Course boosts confidence and fluency in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Suitable for all ability levels, from beginners to advanced linguists.

Course structure and content

An intensive language course typically comprises 20 lessons taught on weekday mornings. Classes are taught in international groups of students all working at the same level, so students enjoy learning at the correct standard and make rapid progress. The pacy, interactive courses cover speaking and listening, reading and writing, with a focus on encouraging students to use German with fluency and confidence.

Prior to travelling students take a short online level test to place them in the appropriate class based on their CEFR language level. Read our handy guide to language levels to find out more and try a online self-assessment, or find out about a typical week at language school.

Destinations

The German capital Berlin is always popular with students on intensive language courses, especially if they want the big-city buzz. Students love historic Munich, where our language school partner is less than ten minutes’ walk from Marienplatz, the city’s central square. A language course in Hamburg puts students in the heart of this walkable, friendly port city with excellent amenities for visitors. For ease of connections to the UK, the EU and the rest of the world, nowhere can beat Frankfurt.

Most students choose homestay accommodation for their Intensive Language Course for the chance to experience local life at first-hand. Carefully vetted hosts support students during their stays, which can be especially valuable for young people travelling alone for the first time. Read our guide to homestay accommodation to find out more.

Students aged 18 can also choose to stay in a language school residence to live alongside other young adults from around the world. Ideal for longer stays, language school residences are smart, beautifully appointed and furnished to a high standard. But they’re also very popular, so please contact us when booking so we can ensure a place is available for you!

You are of course free to arrange your own accommodation for your Intensive German Course.

Activity Programmes

Each language school offers a bespoke programme of cultural activities during the afternoons and at weekends so students get to make friends and make the most of their stay in Germany. Typical activities include city tours and treasure hunts, photo rallies, games or sports, cookery classes, dancing and film evenings. Activity programmes vary from week to week and are generally announced at the beginning of each week. Some activities are offered for an additional charge.
