Spain | Barcelona Intensive Spanish Course

Location

Barcelona is the vibrant capital of the Catalonia autonomous region in north-eastern Spain. The city boasts its own unique landmarks, culture and traditions. With a rich history the city has been influenced by a mix of cultures, including the Visigoths, Moors, and Spanish kings, each leaving a distinct imprint on its architecture and way of life. Barcelona blends ancient customs with contemporary innovation, offering visitors a special experience that showcases its cultural depth. Strolling through its streets, you’ll encounter a captivating fusion of influences that have made Barcelona a global cultural hotspot.

As Spain’s second-most populous city, Barcelona is home to 1.6 million residents. It is the fifth most densely populated urban area in the European Union. Renowned for landmarks like the iconic Sagrada Familia, Barcelona also boasts must-see attractions such as Park Güell, Casa Batlló, the Gothic Quarter, Camp Nou, and a multitude of other captivating sites.

Located in the Dreta de l’Eixample of Barcelona, the language school is only a block away from Gaudi’s Casa Batlló and surrounded by popular shopping streets. The school is housed in a unique historic building that is gated off from the public. Fully modernised inside, it boasts 18 bright classrooms with smart boards, air conditioning, and a computer room as well as indoor and outdoor student common areas. The school is wheelchair accessible and has a lift.

Intensive Language Course

The core course comprises 20 lessons of 50 minutes each which concentrate on learning and actively using Spanish. There are 16 core group lessons, two lessons focused on a group project and two lessons outside the classroom practising Spanish in real world situations. Classes are made up of other students of a similar level, focusing on the core elements of the language: reading, writing, speaking and listening. This course is ideal for students who wish to learn or improve their Spanish, meet new people and enjoy Spanish culture and life in Barcelona in their free time.

For students who want even more opportunities to improve their Spanish, Additional Modules can be added for a small surcharge:

• Four 1:1 sessions on a topic or skill of your choice.
• Four “Spanish in the City” sessions where students encounter authentic Spanish life in neighbourhoods, museums, historic centres and other locations. The curriculum covers literature, architecture, gastronomy, and politics.

Intensive Plus

The Intensive Plus course comprises a total of 30 lessons. On top of the standard Intensive Course, Intensive Plus includes four extra core group sessions, four Spanish in the City sessions, and two conversation sessions. Intensive Plus is the ultimate opportunity to learn Spanish in Barcelona.

Activity Programme

The school offers free activities during the week such as guided visits to area of Barcelona, museums and food tasting experiences. Other activities and full-day excursions are available at weekends for an additional fee. Each week’s exciting and varied programme is announced at the welcome meeting on the first morning of the course. 

Accommodation

For students looking for a truly authentic taste of Spanish life in Barcelona, what better than a stay in host accommodation? Our carefully selected Spanish hosts introduce the Spanish way of life and while mealtimes are a chance to sample delicious regional specialities while speaking Spanish in a real-life setting. Host accommodation is situated within 50 minutes’ total journey time of the school. Hosts provide half-board accommodation (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before the course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability, an extra day at either end of a trip may be available on request to accommodate flight dates.

Special dietary requirements can be accommodated, some of which have a small supplement.

Students also have the option of staying in one of the school shared apartments with other international students in single room or the residence in a studio room. This is on a self-catered basis and the minimum age is 18.

Transfers

Barcelona has an excellent public transport system, making transfers from the airport to host accommodation, residences or hotels a breeze. We provide easy-to-read maps for all travellers explaining how to get to their accommodation. Private airport transfers are available on request (supplementary fee applies).

For these days, group courses will make up 2 missed lessons. Where there are two closed dates in one week group courses will make up 6 missed lessons and those enrolled on the intensive plus will receive additional private lessons as well. All private lessons are rescheduled.
