Germany | Berlin A Level German Revision

A Level Revision

Designed to complement the study of German at A-level, our A-level Revision Courses offer intensive small-group and 1:1 teaching to improve students’ skills in using German at an advanced level.

The group classes are tailored to students’ ability levels and cover general aspects of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Studying in groups of mixed nationalities and ages gives students a rich and immersive experience while in Germany.

Additional 1:1 lessons allow students to specify in advance the syllabus topics they wish to cover. For example, they could focus on a set text, an aspect of speaking or points of grammar.

Please be aware that the A-level Revision Course is not designed around any one single examination board or specification. It is suitable for any student taking A-level, Leaving Certificate, Highers, Finals or similar examinations.

This course runs Sunday to Saturday with accommodation.

Location

The vibrant city of Berlin is a fantastic place to study. With its incredible history, architecture and lively café culture, you will never be short of something to do or somewhere to explore.

Our partner Language School in Berlin is privileged in its location within the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, an area known for its popular Sunday flea market, the Mauerpark and young professional crowd. The school is a 5 minute walk from reliable tram links into the city centre along the M2 and M4 lines. While attending this language school you will not only receive quality German teaching but you will get an authentic taste of Berlin life.

Language Course

The course concentrates on learning and actively using the language – this way the tuition is very much practice oriented. During the morning you will participate in group sessions with other students of a similar German level to you, with lessons focusing on improving all aspects of the German language. In the afternoons, you will then have 1:1 sessions with a tutor where you can discuss any aspect of the language which you want to practice, challenge or understand. During these sessions you will receive personalised support and teaching.

This course is ideal for A Level students as it develops confidence, fluency and vocabulary. It is intended to support students in preparation for exams but also generally improve their German skills.

You will be given a written assessment before you travel and a speaking assessment on the first morning before lessons in order to place you in the group most suited to your ability level. Once you have been allocated to the correct level you will be invited to purchase the coursebook from the language school bookshop, this will be approximately 40€. Classes have an international flavour and a lively feel because they are grouped by ability not nationality or age.

Optional Social and Cultural Programme

The school offers a range of social and cultural activities including sport events, sightseeing trips and guided tours of the city.

Accommodation

Host Accommodation

For students wanting to completely immerse themselves in the German language and culture we recommend that you stay with one of our carefully selected German hosts. They will not only introduce you to the German way of life and help you practise the German language but will also give you a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. Host Accommodation is situated in the Berlin area within good reach of the school by foot or U-bahn / S-bahn (underground/train).

Host Accommodation includes half-board catering (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after it finishes.

Subject to availability, an extra day on one side of your trip may be available on request to facilitate flight dates. A surcharge is payable for any extra nights.

You can read more about what it means to stay with a host in our Host Accommodation Guide.

* Please note that, unlike in France and Spain where families are vetted using the local equivalents of the UK DBS check, hosts in Germany are not required to undertake a police check. Hosts are stringently vetted by the accommodation officer attached to the language school and students’ reviews of hosts are used to inform the suitability of hosts for future use.

Residence

Residence accommodation is only available for students over 18 years old.

The school has a range of beautifully appointed single and twin, self-catering apartments. Apartments include a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and bedsheets.
