Building confidence in networking with Generation Next
Last week, my colleague Emily and I had the opportunity to attend a Building Confidence in Networking session hosted by Generation Next as part of East Midlands Chamber at Nottingham Trent University.
Representing Blue Stamp Travel, we were looking forward to learning new networking techniques and how to make the most of every conversation at conferences and events.
The session
The workshop, led by communication coach Fiona, explored the importance of communication, personal branding and building genuine relationships, alongside practical networking techniques that can be applied at future events.
One of the most valuable parts of the workshop was learning how to confidently work the room. We discussed effective conversation starters, how to read body language, ways to build meaningful connections, and even practical exit strategies when moving between conversations. These are simple but often overlooked skills that can make networking feel much more natural and enjoyable.
The session was highly interactive, combining practical exercises with group discussions and plenty of opportunities to put the techniques into practice. Everyone was encouraged to get involved, ask questions and share their own experiences.
Final thoughts
It was also great to meet and network with other East Midlands Chamber members from across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. I especially enjoyed hearing about everyone’s different industries and career journeys, as well as having the opportunity to share ideas, learn from others and build new professional connections.
Overall, it was an insightful and engaging workshop that has given me plenty of practical tips to take forward into future networking events. Thank you to Fiona for delivering such an enjoyable session, and to Generation Next and East Midlands Chamber for organising another fantastic event!
