Work and Study

Our unique package provides opportunities for language students to study intensive lessons abroad whilst taking on a short-term work experience at one of our varied work placements. Working with our partner language schools across Europe, we provide a package tailored to suit your needs; study, work placement, accommodation, transport, transfers, insurance.

Work and Study packages are available for students studying at A Level or equivalent or higher. It is also suitable for Gap Year students and for university students or adults looking to improve their languages skills, even if it has been some time since they last studied languages formally.

Work placements are available from a range of business categories. Students state their preferences as part of their application and our Placement Coordinators match students to the available placements. Work and Study work placements take place in the afternoons / early evening depending on the sector.

The Work and Study programme runs every Monday to Friday throughout the year. Accommodation is available from Sunday to Saturday. Students can travel for a week, two weeks or longer. We are able to tailor packages to suit your requirements and the time you have available.

Location

Granada is most famously known for the Alhambra, the breathtaking palace which epitomises the city’s Moorish history. Today, this influence runs right through the city and can be seen in its architecture, culture and winding cobbled streets. Though a small city, Granada is a provincial capital and home to one of Spain’s greatest universities, whose population of over 60,000 contributes to the city’s vibrant atmosphere and thriving cultural life.

With cafés, restaurants, bars and terraces offering a variety of tapas and other local treats, Granada is the perfect place to study Spanish and experience southern Spanish culture.

The language school is located in the heart of Granada close to the cathedral and at the foot of the Albaicín, 5 minutes walk from the Alhambra. Set in a recently renovated historic building, the school is spread over four floors. The ground and first floor house the school office, library, classrooms, computer lab, and a patio for the students to meet. The upper two floors consist of fully equipped apartments and a terrace which offers a panoramic view over Granada.

Language Course

The core course comprises 20 lessons which concentrate on learning and actively using Spanish. The tuition is very much practice oriented. You will participate in group sessions alongside other students of a similar level, with lessons focused on improving all aspects of the language; speaking listening, reading and writing. There are 4 classes per day and these take place during the mornings. This course is designed for students who wish to learn or improve their Spanish, meet new people and have some free time to participate in Spanish culture and life in Granada.

You will be given a written assessment before you travel and a speaking assessment on the first morning before lessons in order to place you in the group most suited to your ability level. Classes have an international flavour and a lively feel because they are grouped by ability not nationality or age.

Accommodation

For students looking for a truly authentic taste of Spanish life in Barcelona, what better than a stay in host accommodation? Our carefully selected Spanish hosts introduce the Spanish way of life and while mealtimes are a chance to sample delicious regional specialities while speaking Spanish in a real-life setting. Host accommodation is situated within 50 minutes’ total journey time of the school. Hosts provide half-board accommodation (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before the course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability, an extra day at either end of a trip may be available on request to accommodate flight dates.

Students of 16 years or older also have the option of staying in one of the school self catering residences with other international students; single rooms are available.

Transfers

Typically students travelling to Granada fly to Malaga Airport, about 90 minutes away by road and served by many UK airports. Direct private transfers can be included with your booking.

A great cost-effective option is the ALSA coach service (the equivalent of the UK National Express) which runs from Malaga airport to Granada bus station in about two hours. Tell us if you would like us to arrange a ticket on a suitable connecting service for you.

The fastest train from Madrid to Granada takes around three-and-a-half hours. Granada has an airport but it is not currently served by any direct flights from the UK.
