Work and Study

Our unique package allows language students to study intensive lessons abroad whilst taking on short-term work experience at one of our varied work placements. Working with our partner language school, we tailor the package to suit your needs. Let us know when you want to travel and we will arrange study, work placement, accommodation, transport, transfers, insurance.

Work and Study packages are available for students studying at A-level (or equivalent) or above. It is also suitable for gap year students and for university students or adults looking to improve their language skills, even if it has been some time since they last studied languages formally.

Work placements are available from a range of business categories. Students state their b as part of their application and our Placement Coordinators match students to the available placements. Work and Study work placements take place in the afternoons/early evening depending on the sector.

The Work and Study programme runs from Monday to Friday throughout the year. Accommodation is available from Sunday to Saturday. Most students travel for 1–2 weeks but we are happy to arrange longer stays: get in touch and talk to us about your dream Work and Study trip to Valencia!

Location

Valencia, Spain’s third largest city, sits on the country’s Mediterranean coast. The beautiful Spanish language school is tucked away deep in the heart of the old town, just a few steps away from the city’s beautiful sights and essential services. The four storey former palace has been carefully renovated into a stunning building where modernism complements history. Inside the school, walls from the original 11th Century Arab building are visible in the classrooms and open spaces, creating an atmosphere of history and mystique.

The 28 classrooms are filled with natural light, and are equipped with air-conditioning and interactive whiteboards. If studying in a stunning location rich in history isn’t enough, students can also make the most of the relaxed, well equipped social spaces during break times. They can use the computers and wifi, enjoy the reading area with books and magazines, relax on one of the two patios or bask in the sunshine on the breathtaking roof terrace, complete with sun loungers, fruit trees and a shower to cool off.

Language course

The course comprises 20 lessons which are all about actively using Spanish in groups of students working at a similar level. The practice-oriented tuition covers all aspects of using Spanish to build students’ confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Grouping classes by ability instead of age or nationality makes learning lively, international and immersive.

There are four, 50-minute lessons per day. These take place during the morning.

Students take a short written assessment before they travel and a speaking assessment at the beginning of the course to place them in the group most suited to their ability level.

Work placement

What better way could there be to consolidate classroom learning than to put your language skills to use in a real-life work environment? Through a Work and Study trip, students gain confidence, fluency and valuable workplace skills.

After intensive morning classroom work, Work and Study students then head out in the afternoons and evenings to work placements in their chosen areas of interest.

Each of our work placements fits one of our Business Categories. Placements include shops, restaurants, hotels, nurseries, and even radio stations and sports facilities – almost anything that a big city has to offer! Have a look at our Gallery to see the types of placements we offer.

Our placement team take great pride in securing placements that meet our students’ needs.

Accommodation

For students wanting to immerse themselves in the Spanish language and culture we recommend a stay in host accommodation with one of our carefully selected Spanish hosts. They not only introduce the Spanish way of life and help practise the Spanish language, but also give a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. Host accommodation is situated within 45 minutes’ journey time of the school. Half-board accommodation is provided (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before the course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability, an extra day on one end of the trip may be available on request to facilitate flight dates.

Students aged 17 or older also have the option of staying in one of the school’s self catering residences with other international students; single rooms are available. Students can also choose a single room in a shared apartment with other students from the language school, with communal bathroom and kitchen .

Alex would like to go back in May half term for another work study like she’s done this time. Would it be possible to request the same family and the same work placement? This family she’s with at the minute are absolutely fantastic! She’s speaking a lot of Spanish which is brilliant. She’s also really loving her work placement.
